Background

There is a near universal recognition in the information systems and software community that assembly of prefabricated software components will accelerate building high quality systems on time. This approach is motivated by the fact that building new systems from scratch is not cost-effective, and business organizations are attempting to reuse existing practice and products.

The development of object-oriented languages, methods and tools has facilitated the emergence of component technology. The latest industrial products (Enterprise Javabeens from Sun, ActiveX from Microsoft) and software architectures (.NET, J2EE, OMG Corba) have made such approach possible. There is actually strong emphasis on creating domain business components that are specific to certain categories of real-world applications.

Topics

Suggested areas of interest are :
  • Components for e-commerce and e-business applications
  • Business components and web services
  • XML and business components
  • Domain based components
  • Domain-specific languages
  • Domain-oriented component engineering
  • Methodologies for component based design
  • Languages and models for components specification
  • Software tools for components design and development
  • Software tools for building systems from components
  • Components repositories design
  • Components repositories query languages
  • Components compositions : theories, languages, tools
  • Frameworks for components based systems
  • Components based architectures
  • Components testing and evaluation
  • Components development processes
  • Case studies and experience report in business components based development
Submission and selection

Workshop participants are invited to submit (1) a position paper (6000 words max.), OR (2) a discussion topic proposal (2000 words max.). Submissions should be sent by email to one of the workshop organizers (primary contact prefered), either in Microsoft word or PDF format.

Position papers will be reviewed by 3 members of the program committee. The organizers will select the accepted position papers based on the reviewing results. They will consider scientific quality, relevance to the main topics and potential to generate relevant discussions.
Discussion topics proposals will be selected by the organizers depending on the relevance of the proposed topic to the workshop and the scientific quality of the proposal. The organizers will submit the selected discussion topics to approval by at least 3 members of the program committee.
