Background
There is a near universal recognition in the information systems and software community that assembly of prefabricated software components will accelerate building high quality systems on time. This approach is motivated by the fact that building new systems from scratch is not cost-effective, and business organizations are attempting to reuse existing practice and products.
The development of object-oriented languages, methods and tools has facilitated the emergence of component technology. The latest industrial products (Enterprise Javabeens from Sun, ActiveX from Microsoft) and software architectures (.NET, J2EE, OMG Corba) have made such approach possible. There is actually strong emphasis on creating domain business components that are specific to certain categories of real-world applications.
